Cleaning and Maintenance
Scotchgard Protector Specification
- Scotchgard protector will render the carpeting water and oil repellant,
meaning that most spills will sit on the surface and can be absorbed with
ease.
- Spills that dry can also be removed with greater ease, as the stain will sit
between the fibers as opposed the soaking into them.
- The day to day vacuuming of the carpet will be much more effective, as dirt
will not stick to the carpet fibers so easily.
- Meaning that the frequency of professional cleaning should be dramatically
reduced.
- Finally, the carpet when professionally cleaned, will clean up to a higher
standard.
- Scotchgard protector is the only protector on the market to provide these
benefits. In the long term the protection should have an effective life of 3-5
years, in many cases considerably longer, depending on frequency of cleans
and the amount of traffic over the carpet.
- In the long term the protector should pay for itself as it will reduce cleaning
bills and extend the life of the carpet.
How to look after your new carpet treated with Scotchgard Protector
Introduction
Below are a few tips that will help to extend the life of your carpet. Most of the tips are common
sense, but when you get a spill or stain on your carpet, some of the information contained below
may prove invaluable.
Dealing with spills and stains
The most important thing to do is not to panic.
- Get a box of tissues or some kitchen roll straight away and blot up the spillage.
- Never rub, as this can force the stain deeper into the carpet as well as spreading it out.
- Blot until there is nothing more coming out onto the tissue.
- If there is still a mark afterwards the best thing to use is diluted washing powder (not liquid),
whatever type you use in your washing machine.
- Dilute one cubic inch of powder to one pint of water.
Warning: Don’t use this method for sisal or other water sensitive fibres, call us for advice.
The powder is designed to remove the sort of marks you may get on a carpet. Most importantly
it will return to a powder when the area is dry and can be vacuumed out easily. This means that
the cleaned area will not re-attract dirt.
- Most branded spot cleaners will leave a residue in the carpet, which will re-soil the area.
- If the stain is fresh apply the solution and blot the mark until removed.
- If the stain is dried in, apply the solution and leave for 5-10 minutes. Then reapply a little
more and blot the mark until removed. It is very important to leave the mark to soak, as this
will loosen the stain and will mean you will not have to rub the area.
If you can’t remove the mark by following these instructions call us for advice on
one of the numbers above.
